Rekindling My Passion for RC: A Soaring Journey Back to Creativity and Connection

After 20 years of navigating the high-stakes world of executive life, I found myself yearning for something I had lost along the way—a sense of wonder, creativity, and connection to the things that once brought me joy. That longing led me back to a hobby that had captivated me in my younger years: RC airplanes.

Today, I’m restoring a beautiful Hangar 9 Sopwith Camel 60 powered by an OS Surpass 91 engine. Bringing this classic model back to life has been a journey of patience, precision, and discovery. Every moment spent fine-tuning the details, from adjusting the engine to perfecting the biplane's delicate curves, has reminded me of why I fell in love with this hobby in the first place.

For me, working on RC models has become more than just a pastime; it’s a form of therapy. It’s a chance to unplug, unwind, and immerse myself in the creative process. Building, flying, or even just talking shop with other enthusiasts offers an incredible way to de-stress and recharge. It’s about channeling your focus into something tangible and finding joy in small victories, like a perfectly calibrated engine or a smooth landing.

But perhaps the best part of rediscovering this passion has been the connections I’ve made with other hobbyists. Whether you're a seasoned modeler or someone curious about getting started, the RC community is incredibly welcoming and full of inspiration. It’s a space where creativity and camaraderie take flight—literally.

So, if you’ve ever considered giving RC airplanes, drones, or boats a try, there’s no better time than now. Whether you're 15 or 50, this hobby offers something for everyone: the thrill of flight, the satisfaction of building, and the joy of being part of a shared passion.

Dust off that old model sitting in your garage or start fresh with a new kit. Who knows? You might just find that, like me, the world of RC isn’t just a hobby—it’s a way to reconnect with yourself and others in a deeply rewarding way.

Let’s take to the skies together!
